Justice Pankaj Mithal was born on 17.06.1961. He graduated from the Allahabad University in 1982. He completed his L.L.B. from Meerut College (affiliated to Ch. Charan Singh University) in the year 1985. He was enrolled as an advocate in Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh in the same year. He worked as Standing Counsel of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra from 1990 to February 2006. He was also the standing counsel for U.P. Avas Evam Vikas Parishad Lucknow from 1990 till elevation to Bench. He was elevated as Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on 07.07.2006. He took oath of office as permanent Judge on 02.07.2008.
Justice Pankaj Mithal was appointed as Chief Justice of Common High Court for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh and took oath of office on 4th of January, 2021.
